How it all works

Pod Customisation & Design

Custom tiny homes start with a strong design, then become more personal through the choices that shape how the space looks, feels, and functions.

Designed around the way you want to live

One of the things people quickly discover with Podlife is that the process is not limited to choosing a standard design and leaving it at that. Your new home should feel right for the way you want to live, and that means taking the time to refine the layout, features, and details of your custom tiny home around what matters most to you.

That might mean helping you choose the right floor plan, customising the layout, selecting upgraded finishes, or making practical changes that improve how your home functions day-to-day. The goal is always to create a result that feels like your own, while still keeping the process easy, supportive, and well-guided.

"..I knew I was in good hands”

“I had the opportunity to buy a tiny home and stumbled across Podlife. From the first moment I talked with Bex and she showed me around the show home and listened to what I wanted, I knew I was in good hands.

Together we designed a two-bedroom tiny house to my specs and everyone was so helpful. Nothing was ever a problem from start to finish.

I had a slight hiccup with the dishwasher after delivery and James and the team were straight on to it and had it all sorted as soon as possible.

I cannot express my gratitude enough. I would highly recommend Podlife Tiny Homes to anyone. They are such a great team to work with from the first point of interest through to delivery. Their customer service is exceptional and the homes are beautiful. These are definitely the best homes on the market, and I looked at a few.”

The design process

Start with a strong design, then shape it around you

Our range includes a wide variety of floor plans, sizes, and configurations, giving you a strong starting point. From there, we work with you to refine the details that will make the biggest difference to how your new home looks, feels, and functions.

That could include changes to the kitchen layout, additional storage, upgraded finishes, accessibility-focused adjustments, or details that better suit the site or how you want to use it. Sometimes it is about creating a luxurious home feeling. Other times, it is about making sure the space works beautifully for family, guests, work, or independent living.

Collaboration at every step

Good customisation comes from understanding what matters most, then making the right decisions with attention to detail.

That is where our team can help. We work closely with you from the early conversations through to the final result, listening closely, guiding the process, and helping you make choices that will genuinely improve the way your new home looks, feels, and functions. It is a collaborative process, shaped around getting the details right.

It's all about the detail

The choices made along the way have a big impact on how your new home feels once it is finished. Layout, storage, lighting, finishes, and the way the spaces connect all help shape the day-to-day experience of living in it.

When those details are handled well, the result feels comfortable, cohesive, and genuinely enjoyable to come home to. It is those decisions, both practical and visual, that help turn a well-designed Pod into a home that feels unmistakably yours.

Common questions

Yes. Podlife Pods are designed to comply with the New Zealand Building Code, and exempt granny flats still need to meet the Building Code as well.

The Pod itself may be consented as a building, but that does not automatically mean the whole project on your property is covered by one approval pathway. For qualifying granny flats, a building consent may not be required if the exemption conditions are met.

No. The Pod and the property are two different parts of the project. The site still needs to be suitable in terms of placement, access, services, wastewater, setbacks, hazards, and planning rules.

Because a compliant building does not automatically make the whole project compliant. Even under the granny flat exemption, a PIM is required before building starts, council notifications still apply, and site-specific issues still need to be checked.

You receive the relevant Pod documentation, including compliance records where applicable, sign-offs, warranties, manuals, and Podlife’s maintenance guidance.
